About
Stephen Omukoko Okoth is an aspiring economist and founder of LeadAfrik, a public economics platform focused on explaining how Kenya’s economy works. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematical Economics with Honors from Oberlin College, where he also completed a concentration in Business and a minor in Politics.
His academic work has focused on public economics and development outcomes, including honors research on the effects of fiscal decentralization on neonatal and maternal health outcomes in Kenya. His interests lie at the intersection of public finance, political economy, and economic development, with a particular emphasis on how policy choices shape long-term outcomes.
Stephen has professional experience in fixed income markets, having interned at Morgan Stanley in New York, where he rotated across securitized products, structured margin financing, and municipal and private lending. This experience informs his approach to public finance, debt, and fiscal sustainability.
Through LeadAfrik, he works with historical and contemporary government documents, official statistics, and public financial statements to provide clear, evidence-based analysis of Kenya’s economy. His goal is to improve public understanding of economic policy by focusing on structure, trade-offs, and context rather than headlines or political debate.
