Balance sheets and income statements, without the accounting software
Every Kenyan business needs financial statements — for a loan, a tender, KRA, an investor, or just to know how the business is really doing. But most small businesses keep their records in a notebook, an M-Pesa statement, or a simple spreadsheet, and turning that into a proper balance sheet and profit & loss is fiddly and error-prone. This tool does the structure and the arithmetic for you — you just enter the figures, and it lays them out correctly and checks that the balance sheet ties.
How it works
- 1. Enter each figure — account name, amount, and what kind of line it is. (Or import a CSV, Excel, PDF or photo with AI and it fills the table for you.)
- 2. The income statement and balance sheet build live as you type, with the maths done and any imbalance flagged.
- 3. Edit any line freely — add, remove or re-classify — until it reads right and balances.
- 4. Download it as a PDF to print, email, or take to the bank.
Questions
Do I have to upload anything?
No. You can type your figures straight into the table — account name, amount, and what kind of line it is (revenue, an expense, an asset, and so on) — and the balance sheet and income statement build live as you go. Uploading is optional: if you already keep a CSV or Excel export, a trial balance, a bank or M-Pesa summary, or even a photo or PDF of a report, the AI reads it and fills the table for you to review. Either way, you can edit every line before you download.
What is the difference between a balance sheet and an income statement?
The income statement (also called profit & loss) shows how much your business earned and spent over a period, ending in profit or loss. The balance sheet is a snapshot at one date — what you own (assets), what you owe (liabilities) and what is left for the owner (equity). This tool produces both from one upload.
Are these statements ready for KRA or the bank?
They give you a clean, correctly-structured draft on an IFRS-for-SMEs basis — ideal for management, a loan application, or handing to your accountant. For audited accounts or a formal tax filing, have a qualified accountant review and sign off. The tool shows its workings and flags anything that doesn't balance so nothing is hidden.
Why doesn't my balance sheet balance?
The most common reason is that the current period's profit hasn't been carried into equity as retained earnings — the tool detects this and tells you when the difference equals your net profit. Other causes are a missing account or a total row counted twice. The notes under your statements point you to the exact gap.
Is my data safe?
Yes. When you type your figures in, the statements are computed entirely in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere. If you use the optional AI import, that file is read once to sort the lines into accounts and is not stored on our servers. Either way, nothing is kept.
