UK Health and Care Worker Visa from Kenya: Read the Warning (2026)

The pain: Recruiters are selling Kenyans UK care jobs and Certificates of Sponsorship, but the overseas care-worker route is closing and many offers are scams.

The outcome: You understand the current closure, refuse to pay for any job or Certificate of Sponsorship, and verify every rule and sponsor on gov.uk before parting with money.

It is illegal for a UK sponsor to charge you for a Certificate of Sponsorship, so never pay for a job, a CoS, or a guaranteed visa.

This is critical and volatile, and gov.uk is the only source of truth.

⚠️ In 2025 the UK CLOSED the Health and Care Worker visa to NEW overseas applications for care workers and senior care workers. Care providers must now recruit from within the UK first, and salary thresholds rose. Do not trust any recruiter's claim over gov.uk.

Current state (verify on gov.uk)

  • Overseas recruitment into care-worker and senior-care-worker roles is ending. Providers must first hire from the pool already in the UK.
  • People already in the UK in the care sector can generally extend, switch sponsors, and apply to settle during a transition period (verify end dates).
  • Doctors, nurses and other eligible NHS health professionals remain on the Health and Care Worker route. The closure targets adult social-care roles.
  • All applicants still need a confirmed job offer from a Home Office-licensed sponsor, a valid Certificate of Sponsorship, the required salary, and English-language proof.

Scam warning (essential)

  • Because overseas care recruitment is largely closed, fraudsters are actively targeting Kenyans with fake UK care jobs and fake Certificates of Sponsorship.
  • It is ILLEGAL for a UK sponsor to charge you for a Certificate of Sponsorship. Never pay for a job, a CoS, or a guaranteed visa.
  • Verify any sponsor on the official UK register of licensed sponsors, and confirm every rule on gov.uk before paying anyone anything.
