Free Job Application Tracker (Excel) — never miss a follow-up

A job search falls apart when you cannot remember who you applied to, when, or whether you followed up. This free tracker fixes that: one row per job, a status dropdown from wishlist to offer, and a follow-up flag that tells you exactly what to chase today. A dashboard counts your applications, interviews, offers and response rate for you.

  1. Download the file above.
  2. Open Google Drive, then New → File upload and choose the file.
  3. Right-click it in Drive → Open with → Google Sheets. It becomes a fully editable Google Sheet — every formula and tab intact — and works on your phone too.

The .xlsx format opens free in Google Sheets, LibreOffice, or Excel for the web — no paid software required.

What's inside

  • One row per job: company, role, source, date, status, contact, salary, link
  • Status dropdown from Wishlist through to Offer and Accepted
  • Follow-up flag that shows DUE the day a follow-up is needed
  • Days-since counter so nothing goes cold unnoticed
  • Dashboard: applications, interviews, offers and response rate, counted for you
  • Formulas locked; only the yellow cells accept typing

The tabs

  • Read me (guide)
  • Applications
  • Dashboard

Yellow cells only. You type in the yellow cells; the rest are locked formulas. Gridlines are off and it prints clean on A4.

On the Applications tab, add one row per job: the company, the role, where you saw it, the date you applied and a status. Pick the status from a dropdown (Wishlist, Applied, Interview, Offer, Accepted, Rejected, Ghosted), set a follow-up date, and the FOLLOW-UP column shows a clear DUE marker the moment that date arrives and the application is still open. A DAYS SINCE column shows how long each one has been silent, so you know what to chase.

The Dashboard tab does the counting: total tracked, applications sent, interviews, offers, accepted, a full breakdown by status, and your response rate (interviews divided by applications). Yellow cells are the only ones you type in; every other cell is a locked formula, so you cannot break it. Opens in Excel or Google Sheets. When you are ready to apply, build the CV and cover letter with the free LeadAfrik tools.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Download it, keep it, and use it for your whole job search at no cost. When you are ready to apply, the LeadAfrik CV maker, cover letter maker and interview prep are there too.

Will it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or use it in Excel. The dropdown, the follow-up flag and the dashboard all work in both.

How does the follow-up reminder work?

Set a follow-up date on any row. When that date arrives and the application is still open (not Accepted, Rejected or Ghosted), the FOLLOW-UP column shows a DUE marker, so a quick glance tells you exactly who to chase today.
