Free Savings Goal Tracker (Excel) — hit your target on time

A savings goal without a monthly number is a hope, not a plan. This free tracker turns the goal into a plan: set the amount and the date, log what you put aside, and it tells you the exact figure to save each month to arrive on time.

What's inside

  • Saved, remaining and a progress bar per goal

The tabs

  • Start Here (guide)
  • Goals
  • Contributions
  • Dashboard

Yellow cells only. You type in the yellow cells; the rest are locked formulas. Gridlines are off and it prints clean on A4.

List each goal once on the Goals tab — what it's for, the amount you need and the date you want it by. Every time you set money aside, add a line on the Contributions tab. How much you've saved, what's left, your progress bar and the monthly amount to hit the date all work themselves out.

The Dashboard shows your total saved, your target, what's still to save and your overall progress across every goal. Set today's date and the monthly-needed figure stays honest — if a target date passes and the goal isn't met, it shows the full amount still owed. Yellow cells for typing; the rest is locked. Opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

Frequently asked questions

How does it work out what to save each month?

It divides what's left to save by the number of months until your target date. Set today's date on the Dashboard and the figure updates, so you always know this month's amount to stay on track.

What if my target date has already passed?

If the date has passed and the goal isn't met, the monthly-needed figure shows the full amount still owed — a nudge to top it up or move the date. Nothing is hidden.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes — upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the progress bars carry over.
