Free Business Profit Dashboard (Excel, KES): gross and net profit month by month

Knowing your turnover is not the same as knowing your profit, and plenty of busy wholesalers never work out the difference. This free profit dashboard does it for you: enter each month's revenue, cost of goods sold and operating costs, and your gross profit, gross margin, operating profit, net profit and net margin are worked out, month by month.

On Monthly P&L, fill the yellow cells down each month column, revenue, cost of goods sold, then your operating costs like rent, salaries, marketing and other. Gross profit, gross margin percent, operating profit, net profit and net margin percent all work themselves out, and the Full year column totals every month.

The Summary shows the whole year at a glance, with a loss in red and a profit in green. Yellow cells are your only inputs. The premium version adds a dashboard of revenue versus cost of goods and net profit by month with a margin trend, a cost-structure analysis, and a printable A4 profit and loss statement. Frequently asked questions

Is the basic version free?

Yes. The basic profit dashboard is free to download and keep. The premium upgrade, with a visual dashboard, a cost-structure analysis and a printable profit and loss statement, is an optional KES 500.

How is profit worked out?

Gross profit is revenue minus cost of goods sold, and net profit is gross profit minus your operating expenses, plus or minus any other items. Gross and net margins are shown as a percentage of revenue for each month.

Is this an audited statement?

No. It is a record-keeping aid that helps you see your profit and margins clearly month by month. For statutory accounts or an audit you would still work with a qualified accountant.
