Free Daily Cash Flow Tracker (Excel, KES): money in, money out, running balance

A business can be profitable on paper and still run out of cash, and that is what sinks wholesalers. This free cash flow tracker keeps you ahead of it: log each day's sales, other income, M-Pesa and bank receipts and every expense, and the daily balance, a running balance and a monthly in, out and net summary work themselves out.

On Daily Log, add a row for each entry, the date and any money in (sales, other income, M-Pesa, bank) or an expense (pick a category and type the cash out). Money in, the daily balance of in minus out and the running balance all fill in on their own, with a negative balance in red and a positive one in green.

The Monthly Summary rolls every entry up into money in, money out and net for each month with a full-year total. Yellow cells are your only inputs. The premium version adds a dashboard of in versus out by month and a running-balance trend, a channel and category analysis, and a printable A4 monthly cash-flow statement. Opens in Excel, WPS or Google Sheets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the basic version free?

Yes. The basic cash flow tracker is free to download and keep. The premium upgrade, with a dashboard, a channel and category analysis, and a printable monthly cash-flow statement, is an optional KES 500.

Does it separate M-Pesa and bank from cash?

Yes. The Daily Log has columns for sales, other income, M-Pesa in and bank in, so you can see which channel your money comes through while the totals still roll up correctly.

Is this a proper set of accounts?

It is an honest record-keeping and cash-flow aid for a small business, not an audited financial statement or a substitute for a bookkeeper. It keeps your day-to-day cash clear so you always know your position.
