Free Lesson Planner (Excel, CBC-aware) — timetable, lesson plans and topics tracker

Planning that lives on loose sheets is planning you cannot see. This free planner puts it in one place, built for a Kenyan CBC classroom. Fill your weekly timetable, write a plan for every lesson with its strand, learning outcomes, activities and resources, and track each topic from not started to covered, so at any point in the term you know what you have taught and what is still ahead.

On the Timetable tab, fill each period from Monday to Friday with the subject you teach, chosen from a dropdown. On the Lesson Plans tab, add one row per lesson: the week, day, subject, strand, sub-strand or topic, learning outcomes, activities, resources and a reflection, then set the status to Planned, Delivered or Postponed. The Topics Covered tab lets you list your term's topics and mark each Not started, In progress or Covered as you go.

The Summary counts your periods, your lessons planned and delivered, your delivery rate and the share of topics covered, all worked out for you. Yellow cells are the only ones you type in; every other cell is a locked formula, and the status columns colour themselves so progress is obvious at a glance. It opens in Excel, WPS or Google Sheets, with no macros.

Frequently asked questions

Is the basic version free?

Yes. The basic Lesson Planner is free to download and keep, term after term. The premium upgrade, with a term dashboard, a subject analysis and a printable weekly plan, is an optional KES 500.

Is it built for CBC?

Yes. The lesson plan uses CBC language (strand, sub-strand, learning outcomes, learning activities and resources) and the topics tracker follows your scheme of work, so it fits how a Kenyan classroom actually plans.

How does it show what I have covered?

The Topics Covered tab marks each topic Not started, In progress or Covered, and the Summary turns that into a percentage covered. The premium dashboard adds lessons planned versus delivered for each week of the term.
